In the mid-1820's, an industrious religious group we know as 'The Shakers', developed the flat broom, the design we are most familiar with today. The Shakers didn't put much stock in decoration and eliminated the woven top found in other brooms of the period. They bound their brooms to the handle with wire. Much fuller than today's 'grocery store' brooms, this one is like the quality brooms used by our grandparents. With 2 1/2 pounds of Number 1 broomcorn. It is 60 inches high.
